When Dom João de Mascarenhas, the 1st Marquis of Fronteira, built the Palace of the Marquesses in 1671, we doubt that he knew how important it would become. He intended it for use as a hunting pavilion after all. That hunting pavilion has grown through the years to become a Portuguese National Monument and could become the place where you exchange your wedding vows. Exciting right?
The Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira, also known as Marques Fronteira Palace, was originally a family house attached to a chapel. It was later transformed into the Marques of Fronteira Family House in 1755 after an earthquake destroyed the main family house. Today, the chapel is the oldest part of the palace, and the venue is the current residence of the Marquis of Fronteira.
It is quite easy to reach this venue using a private taxi from central Lisbon. You'll adore the Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira, also known as Marques Fronteira Palace, for its landscaped gardens. Complete with neatly cut hedges, ponds, fountains, and statues of royalty, this place is one you and your guests will not forget in a hurry. It is Portugal's most preserved estates and famous for the exquisite traditional Portuguese tiles known as azulejos.
Inside the palace boasts of everything from crystal chandeliers to intricate, frescoed ceilings. The azulejos mentioned above are even better viewed in the Hall of Battles.
